§ 94-260. Bus loading zones.

  • (a)

    Where bus loading zones are established and clearly marked, it shall be the duty of every bus to load and unload the passengers within the bus loading zone. When a bus enters the bus loading zone, shall be construed to be within the bus loading zone if its right front wheel is one foot or less distance away from the adjacent curb.

    (b)

    Any bus company or bus driver who fails or refuses or otherwise violates subsection (a) of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined no less than $50.00 and no more than $750.00, plus costs for each violation.

    (c)

    Suitable signs shall be placed at each loading zone indicating that it is a bus loading zone, and that area for loading buses shall be for a distance of 50 feet or more, and the pavement shall be marked showing the length of the bus loading zone.

    (d)

    Any owner or operator of any vehicle other than a bus who either drives upon or parks within a bus loading zone shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be fined no less than $50.00 or more than $750.00 plus costs for driving upon or parking within the bus loading zone.

    (e)

    Authorized town officials and employees upon finding vehicles parked in violation of this section, shall be authorized and directed to enforce this subsection by ticketing or towing. Any vehicle parked in violation of this section shall be subject to an immediate tow without notice in accordance with division 7 of this article. The towing charges in each case shall be borne by the owner of the vehicle.
