§ 94-255. Manner of parking; angle parking.

  • (a)

    Except as otherwise provided in this section, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a two-way roadway shall be so stopped or parked with the righthand wheels parallel to and within 12 inches of the righthand curb or as close as practicable to the right edge of the righthand shoulder.

    (b)

    Except when otherwise provided by local ordinance, every vehicle stopped or parked upon a one-way roadway shall be so stopped or parked parallel to the curb or edge of the roadway, in the direction of authorized traffic movement, with its righthand wheels within 12 inches of the righthand curb or as close as practicable to the right edge of the righthand shoulder, or with its lefthand wheels within 12 inches of the lefthand curb or as close as practicable to the left edge of the lefthand shoulder.

    (c)

    The superintendent of police shall determine upon what streets angle parking shall be permitted and shall mark or sign such streets or cause the streets to be marked or signed, except that angle parking shall not be permitted on any federal aid or state highway unless the state has determined that the roadway is of sufficient width to permit angle parking without interfering with the free movement of traffic.

    (d)

    Any person convicted of violating this section shall, upon conviction, be fined not less than $50.00 and not more than $750.00 for each offense.

    (e)

    Authorized town officials and employees upon finding vehicles parked in violation of this section, shall be authorized and directed to enforce this subsection by ticketing or towing. Any vehicle parked in violation of this section shall be subject to an immediate tow without notice in accordance with division 7 of this article. The towing charges in each case shall be borne by the owner of the vehicle.
